Ronald Scherpenhuijsen Rom originally joined ING Bank N.V., Amsterdam in 1990 as a senior member of the Export & Project Finance Department. He joined ING from ABN Amro’s domestic corporate division in which he had worked in various capacities for almost 10 years.

Ronald moved to Asia in 1994 when he started working in Japan as head of Export & Project Finance and Trade & Commodity Finance. From 2001 until 2005 he held positions with ING Capital in New York as Head of Natural Resources, Structured Lending, Americas and ING Bank in Amsterdam as Global Head of Structured Export Finance, before returning to Japan in 2005 to become the country head and branch manager of ING Bank Tokyo Branch.

He was appointed to his current position in the Bank on 1 June 2009 based in Beijing.
